Maybe this time, I can get it in the right forum. so many open windows...etc...Thanks Rhino!

Okay..here ya go. Been one of those days.

If you examine your competition by keyword... like I did...look at density. I went .5% higher in density in April.

Structure wise...don't worry about the Meta Description except making it sound GREAT for sales and make it werk for page density against the competition.

The title is Important. Primary keyword Density is Measurable from keyword to keyword as well. For Instance...I used the word "VIAGRA" multiple times within my TITLE TAG. NOT MULTIPLE TITLE TAGS THO.

Now...this is pretty off the wall...down just below the body tag...I place another Meta, like so:
< H1> < META NAME="keywords" Content="blah, blah">< /H1>
Then Immediately after that I follow with some links like this:
< A HREF="http://domainname.com/primarykeyword/">< /A> and about 9 more tags just like the above, however the sub-dirs I list in there like: /primarykeyword/ and the nine others stacked on top of each other are all identical to the main INDEX page used to get ranked. However, each of those 9 other sub-dirs default to an index within their own DIR. Since each sub-dir contains a mirror copy of the primary page...to avoid dupe detection and obtain multiple listings at the same time...one must vary the density of the "MIRROR" page for the 9 "OTHER" sub-dirs, all named a different "keyword" sumpthing type format. Hence, submission of the root domain, with a planted link to which contains a page with all subdirs as well and any other domains with SAME CONTENT.

Now, Excite has picked up SOME of those SUB-Dirs of varying densities....but webcrawler has taken a real liking to this system. Use text on the pages to get a good varying density...but work the 9-10 links under the body tag.

OKAY, I gave one away for free. I can't believe it. But I did. ONLY for Moderators and ADMINS only. If I see this elsewhere, I'll have a conniption. Spelling...

Gawd, this is interesting...and I am going to be gone for awhile...bummer.

MOI, your algo is differant then mine!! I find this totaly fasinating, because we are BOTH able to get top listings in very competitive terms.

Some differances...
I do not do the H1 thing...I use no bad code at all.

I use keywords in my title tag, but only once each. I never make it longer then 5 words. I am usually anyone from #1 to #4 on any combination of the 5 words.

I use a keyword tag, but only for my own use, I add all the easy words that I do not have in my title, but in the text. (at a good density) I give it zero weight, do your records show that Excite looks at it?

I do a very simular linking thing. I use a limit of 12 before it bombs though. And, I put it below my text, not above. And, I do not use "same content", I use real links into the site, where I am targeting other terms. (ie...I may target attorney on one page, lawyer on the next)

As I have stated multiple times within the forums. I do not give my algorythims away.

If I see anyone posting any part of this publicly I will have a hissy fit. This is my only source of income, and I think it is great. I am a stay at home single mother. Do not interfere with my ability to provide a good home and be a full time "Mommy".

Threats aside.... Do you submit your sub-directories MOI?

Janet and MOI, I will NOT tell a single person about your algos, period!

If you guys do not mind I would like to learn from you. I don't think that anyone here will be targeting my keywords, but if you are, there is no reason we can't be #1 and #2.

Now, when I create my pages, its more of a hit or miss thing and I don't like it. I pay attention to keyword density, but that's it. As I have time, I study more and more "top sites," learning from what they do.

Question, when you make these pages, do they have to be the index page or can you do the same thing with side pages? I know that the index page "sticks" longer in excite so I tend to think that you need to optimize it first.

Also, I'm thinking about getting some "free" web space and putting doorway pages for the index page. Is this common and alright? If so, do any free hosting companies offer unique domains? Who would be the best bet to go with?

BTW-Janet, I know this is your job and I am more then glad to send everyone looking for this type of service to you. I believe that a Mom's full time job is being "Mommy." I never want my "future wife" to work out of the house nor any other Mom.

VI, I completely rely on the index page for all the tough terms. I do not use doorways.

I use sub-pages for easy stuff.

I do not have time right now, but if you still need help after next week I will take a look at your index page, or whichever one you want, and help you clean it up.

In exchange I want you to find me a great deal for my visit!! Unfortantly I think I can not come for a couple of years. (I want to take a trip there, to Egypt, and the Red Sea)

Janet, if you help me out, I have a deal for you! I will soon be able to set up travel tours/arangements. If you help me out, I will give you the best deal ever! I can set up a custom trip for you and not take any commission. You would get wholesale prices sort of speak. This goes with anyone in this forum! As far as I am concerned, we ar family and i would not charge my sister.

What I really need help on is with Inktomi. This what I am working on right now. I am studing results and trying to figue out what works.

I think I figued out AV and I'm waiting for listings in the IS directory, snap, NL, and a description for my Yahoo! listing. These things sure do take a lot of time.

With Excite, I had a #3 position before this last update. Now I'm at #23. The reason I fell back was because I added news to my index page. I think I can get my rating back though. Were I would like to rank high with excite is with "travel" and "vacation." These words are a whole differant ball game then "Israel." Israel is actually pretty easy IMO.

My greatest success has been with ODP and the sites that use them. They send me a lot of my traffic and many of the sites still do not have my updated listings.

Interestingly, Janet and I do things almost identically - right down to the links at the bottom of the page. The only difference (and I'll have to experiment with this) is that my title often goes over 5 words.

One thing I think has worked well (though I'll admit I have no "control group" to gauge it by) is that I have emphasized text incorporating my kw's as the very first thing on every page. It's a one line blurp at the top of the page, above the logo or banner that almost looks like it's part of the logo/banner. I wish I had the guts to make it an H1 ...

MOI, Janet and all others:

Like everyone else has stated, you have my utmost trust and I whole-heartedly promise never to release this information outside the forums.

I do have a few questions because I am a little confused. Janet mentioed "I do not do the H1 thing...I use no bad code at all" Is using an H1 bad code? I use this on my pages - should I not. In regards to to the 9 links to subcategories, I am confused. are you saying that one should have approximately 9 links to your subpages that contain the following structure (KW = keyword):

  1. mycompany.com/mainKW/
  2. mycompany.com/mainKW/secondaryKW
  3. mycompany.com/mainKW/secondaryKW2
  4. mycompany.com/mainKW/secondaryKW3
  5. mycompany.com/mainKW/secondaryKW4
  6. mycompany.com/mainKW/secondaryKW5
  7. mycompany.com/mainKW/secondaryKW6
  8. mycompany.com/mainKW/secondaryKW7
  9. mycompany.com/mainKW/secondaryKW8

Now, can all these pages have unique content?

And all these links should be below your text or does that matter? (Janet said she had hers below here text)

I may be reiterating what you are saying, but I want to make sure I understand.
My site is located at: http://www.fundraising-ideas.com
I think I have built a good structure for my site....I
do believe I need to work on my fundraising-ideas.com/fundraising side of the directory.

Thxs.

Bradley, I suspect what Janet was referring to as "bad code" is bracketing a meta-tag inside of H1 tags - not the use of the H1 itself.

RonC,
You are accurate...Sorry its taken me so long to get back guys. Bunches of stuff happening in the last 24 hours...I'm dodging word darts.
Okay...
This is kewl indeed Janet,
I have used and TESTED bad code for a long time, and have used it successfully for top ranks. No one ever said the code had to be proper...as long as it doesn't crash the browser and the end user can get what is needed. Now, since I cloak, my SE(INDEX) page is ugly as sin. So I can get away with wierd code structures.

I've nested tags inside the metas right before my primary keyword to create a burp. Pretty cool too, because if you look at the code in Netscape, you see the Meta blinking. Spider choke on my keywords.

Janet, I do not submit my SUB-DIRS. They do get spidered and always seem to rank well at WEBCRAWLER. They don't do as hot at Excite itself tho.

As to density, DENSITY has most definitely been a factor (meaning for the whole page, not sure if you meant density of a particular tag).
Bradley:
What I meant was this: mydomain.com/keyword1/
mydomain.com/keyword2/
mydomain.com/keyword3/
ETC.

I'll take ya up on that Discout Israel Trip VI. Had a blast the first trip and felt like I was completely at home in Jerusalem.

But a small 6 person boat on the lake in Galilee would be great. Dig the awesome St. Peter's Fish.

It is going to KILL me being gone from this for so long. I do not sleep well with the brain going.
Sorry folks, by "bad" I meant misplaced.
I really need to learn how to cloak the pages. I have had alot of stealing. I used to have major trouble with it in Infoseek. (I dont know why) Oh course that problem is solved, I rarely have a page over 30!

The stealing has actully calmed down. So many people cloak that I think it is assumed that my pages are cloaked too, hehehe.

Hey Janet,

Say the word and I'll set you up. My latest script is a design of my partners and its PREMIUM. NO, ITS not LITTLEMANCLOAK 3.0

Our script is just doggone primo. When a spider hits your index, and it determines who it is...the script politely drops you an e-mail telling you exactly WHO/Whcih spider came a'callin. VERY NICE.

Obviously it werks for me well in the VIAGRA arena. You'd be surprised at how extremely competitive that term is. Big bucks, so YOU must cloak to stay in the game.

First off - rest assured none of these specifics leave this forum via me.
Ive not really tackled Excite in anger yet so it's all quite interesting.
Ive got a framed site Im trying to improve, managed to get it from nowhere to #3 on the first attempt but would love to get it top and get the subpages indexed. Theres 3 framed doorways linked off the default...the site is in no way designed for deep linking, even if I could link into without ruining the navigation theres little there to index as its massively shockwaved.

I had a feeling there werent enough links in the default noframes and this thread has confirmed those supicions. So the question is - repetition of links to the same 3 pages - good/bad?

Does this technique (bad html) work for any other SE (besides EX WC) or would it get ya in trouble? Have you tried it with Inktomi, AV, etc...?

MOI: Thanks for the reply...I see what you are saying! So, one should have 8-10 links to subdirectories that are your competitive keywords and those index pages look exactly like your home page but you change the keyword density slightly..correct?

I'm with Janet - I have not cloaked my site. I read the discussions in the SE Technologies forum, and I get a little hesitant for fear of being detected...Is it worth the risk? IS there any risk? Will SEs ever try and detect it? My main concern is keeping the IP list updated..All it takes is one IP address to slip by you and then you have been detected!

I second vactionisrael's question about if this technique will work with other search engines. I ranked extremely well with Infoseek and Inktomi, so I don't know if I want to change everything to fit Excite. IF I do change, will it impact the other search engines? Bradley

I also have the questions that Bradley has.
Also, FYI, One of my competitors cloak, but just one as far as I can tell. I can tell because his listings do not match his site.

I would like to do just to "clean" up my main page.

Hi Bradley,
I dont think you have to go into cloaking unless you are in a very competitive area. I never used it and I dont think that I have had any code stolen (and IF I had - they sure didnt know what to do with it -hehehe, couse they still rank below me - heheheh)
