Cooking Fire Safety

Since more fires begin in the kitchen than any other room in the house, I thought it would be a good idea to review the recipe for mimimizing the risk of a kitchen fire.
  • Never leave cooking unattended.
    • If you must leave the kitchen, turn OFF the burner.
  • Keep your stovetop and cooking area clean and free of combustibles
    • Such as potholders, towels and curtains
    • Always clean appliances after cooking to prevent grease build-up
  • Keep the lid for the pan inwhich you are cooking handy
    • If a fire start in the pan, slide the lid on and turn off the burner.
    • Don't ever try to carry a pan with burning grease to the sink or outside
  • Practice fire safety techniques with children
    • Never leave them to cook in the kitchen without the suervision of an adult.
