Lake Palace
Udaipur India February 2009

Lake Palace is situated on the Jagniwas Island in the middle of the Lake Pichola. The island is about an acre and half in size and built by Maharana Jagat Singh II in 1754. It used to be a pleasure palace for the royal family in summers and has now been turned into a heritage hotel. Dreamy location, romantic ambience, fairy tale delicate craftsmanship and the interiros based on ethnic themes using textiles and handicrafts all over are simply outstanding. It has a swimming pool, courtyards, fountains and a restaurant. It could well be termed as the major reason for putting the city on the international tourist circuit. Casual visitors are perferably kept away and those not staying there can come only for a meal. The hotel arranges for getting to the island by a jetty. Just behind Jagniwas, is a smaller island Arsi Vilas which was built by a maharaja to get a view of the majesticity of sunset.
